Isn't life funny? It's true what they say about fashion being cyclical...it's becoming more and more evident in these times of "recessional" hardship that we like to go back to a time when things were good and things felt better.
For example ladies and gentlemen take Angel Delight...no really, stay with me...recently I read that Angel Delight sales had risen considerably since entering this current dark period. People connected this light whippy all be it VERY sugary dessert with good times, it's been around since the 60's and its kept it's place on our high street shelves ever since. It's not expensive, it's easy to make and tastes damn good.
Marks and Spencer celebrated their 100 year birthday recently, they went back to their roots and played upon the penny bazarr format which made their name famous way way back many years ago. They knew people needed a distraction, they knew people wanted mega cheap things and above all they knew that with their sales dipping they needed to do something quick to drum up a frenzy - thousands of people bought stuff they didn't really need in those few days.
Similarly, I don't know if you've noticed but the increase in vintage TV adverts that have been dug out of the archives and are gracing our screens again? Ones I've seen so far are Milky Way and Toys R'us....amazing! It took me straight back to my childhood, which to be fair wasn't that long ago, I still consider myself a young 25 year old, but it worked.
It makes you wonder what else will be due back an entry on our British High streets? hmmm...Maybe Tab Clear (where did that go?) the taste of cola with no colour, genius! stand alone Woolworths pick and mix stores? Now there's an idea!
Sing along now everyone...The red car and the blue car had a race....
